ROM THE DESK OF OUR PASTOR… Happy New Year 2018! I trust everyone had a wonderful Christmas and now have welcomed in the New Year as a year full of opportunities to do more than ever for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s begin by asking ourselves what can we do more of or differently to show the love of Jesus to a lost and dying world.
I often think of this as I prepare for many of the activities in my life and that is that God says for us to redeem the time. As each year comes and goes, it makes me more aware that my time is getting shorter to do what I can do for Christ. I know I want to do more than I have ever done in the past to help those in need and spread the gospel to those who are in need of a Savior. Let our prayer be to reach more for Christ than in the previous year. Let’s make a point to witness more to those around about us whenever we are given the opportunity. Let’s also be more supportive to those who need it. In other words, be a Christian friend…or just be Christ-like.
I am looking forward to this calendar year and the many ways God will work in our midst. This past year God has truly continued to work, bringing in new people and blessing us with many successful event and activities, but we have faced some challenges and have some planning to do for the future. Please pray God will direct us in the way He would have us to go and what He would have us to do.
As I set goals for this past year, some were met and some weren’t—some were personal and some were church-related. I don’t feel like we need to give in but dig a little deeper in ourselves, asking questions like-- What does Sunday School mean to me? What does church attendance mean to me? What does learning more about God’s word mean to me? What does witnessing to others mean to me? What does being used of God mean to me? What does being a mentor to others (adults and children) in the church mean to me? If God rated me from 1-10 with 10 being most committed and most dedicated to Christ, where would I fall on His rating scale? Well, He does have a scale and it is called the Bible, the holy inspired, the infallible and the inerrant Word of God. How do I measure up? How did I measure up this past year? How will I measure up in this year?
I close, I ask each one of us to pray and ask God to help us this coming year. God bless you and I love you all.
